I'm sure you all know by now that negotiations btw CUPE and the university have broken down once more b/c the former will basically only offer binding arbitration…. There is some talk that the union exec. is mad that some concessions on our demands are being considered by the bargaining team, and "BT Elections" are not only an item on the agenda for the GMM, but they have now been made the first agenda item!
I don't know where all of you stand on the strike in terms of what you think we should get out of it, but I know several of you share my more moderate position that we should prioritise some demands, and be willing to let go of others to get back to work asap. The exec's note of "BT Elections" on the agenda may indicate that they are planning on getting rid of the current bargaining team, and replacing them with a more strike-happy team. In light of that, it is super important that as many people as possible go to the GMM and show support for giving SOME concessions. Please attend if you can to make your voice heard!
